at Collier
St. United Church
It is
our desire to make your marriage ceremony a meaningful and memorable
occasion. Our prayer is that your marriage will be a lasting one
in which you will grow together in love. We hope that the following
information will be helpful to those who wish to sanctify their
union in the eyes of God.
Here
are some commonly asked questions about weddings at Collier.
1.
What times are weddings usually performed?
We have 4 wedding
times to choose from:

3.
Are weddings held every Saturday?
There are certain dates in which Collier St. United Church does
not conduct weddings due to other scheduled events. Please contact
the church office for date availability.
4.
How many people does the sanctuary hold?
The sanctuary
can accommodate 500 people.
5.
I’m having a very small wedding with only 10 guests.
Collier St. United
Church also has a small chapel that is available for weddings.
6.
How much does it cost?
The fee is reviewed annually. Wedding Fees include honoraria for
the Minister, Organist, Custodian, and Administrator, candles,
pew bows and church flowers as well as a rental fee for the use
of the Sanctuary for families not active at Collier.
7.
Do I have to be a member of Collier St. United Church or any United
Church? What if I have been divorced?
Collier St. does
not have restrictions with the exception that you must be able
to legally marry in Canada and wish to express your faith through
a church wedding.
8.
Are marriage classes required?
Collier St. United
Church does not host marriage classes. Instead, you and your fiancé
will meet with the minister for pre-marriage counselling.
9.
May we include our own vows?
You will receive
a copy of the Wedding Service used at Collier. We welcome your
ideas and will be glad to discuss them with you. The ceremony
is, however, a service of worship, and any suggestions or changes
should be reflective of that and must be approved by the minister.
10.
What about music?
A CD is provided
to assist you in selecting music for the Processional, Signing
and Recessional. Any selections made outside of the offering on
the CD must be approved by the organist/minister. If you are wanting
a soloist, either your own or one of Collier’s soloists,
appropriate music for worship is to be chosen and must be confirmed
with the minister. If you would like to hire outside musicians
(i.e., a string quartet, bagpipes), please confirm with the minister.
11.
Are there any restrictions on photography/videography?
It is requested
that photographs not be taken by guests once the ceremony begins.
Your Wedding Photographer and/or Videographer must comply with
Collier’s expectations for photography/videography during
the ceremony. These matters will be clarified at the time of the
wedding rehearsal.
12.
May the guests throw confetti after the wedding?
Confetti, rice,
bird seed, etc. may not be thrown on church property.
13.
May we see the church before we decide to hold our wedding at
Collier?
The public is
welcome to come and view the sanctuary. Please consult the “About
Us” section of the website for church hours.
